Codec used in DVD-A

Is the codec used to render from AVI to Mpeg2 in DVD-A the same as MainConcept used in Vegas? Or, to put it differently, for best quality should I render in Vegas or DVD-A?

They both use the exact same encoder. You just get more options available to you in Vegas.
