Thanks so much for sharing this! I was searching the web for test patterns the other day and found this neat utility that helps make test cards/patterns:

There's a couple of free and useful charts here:

Just yesterday I screwed up my new Samsung LCD by accidentally activating the AV Input ADC calibration, located in the service menu. I thought I was hosed until I found help in the AVS forums which suggested that I needed a checkerboard pattern. I tried creating a DVD in Vegas using the checkerboard pattern, but didn't get it to work. I then went looking for test patterns and found this collection:

GetGray Digital Video Calibration Professional

I created a DVD with this pattern, and re-did the calibration. I got a "success" result, and I think the TV actually now does a slightly better job on input from the composite connector.

They hide those service menus for a reason. :)

A handy collection. You included George Ou's vector version of the EIA-1956 chart in the three formats he gave me (AI, CDR, EPS) but I find a PDF version of it more readily useful. You can get that here: http://www.bealecorner.com/trv900/respat/EIA1956.pdf
Likewise, my simple resolution wedge is in PDF format here: http://www.bealecorner.com/trv900/respat/reswedge.pdf

Thanks, John.
I'll include the PDF versions when I get the chance.
I clearly remember that it was your tests of the TRV that got me all excited about DV nearly a decade ago.

Sure thing- glad the TRV900 pages were of interest. Still a bit surprising what a wide audience that site reached.

It's because your content is googleable.

How times have changed. I have a res chart here that goes to 4,000 lines.

I hope anyone using a chart is aware of the trap of not moving the camera very slightly to get the maxiumum resolution out of it.
