I am assuming if they were not, there would be no reason to have them in there... Lets go with an experts answer though, not mine.

Are the color bars supplied with the VV3 true SMPTE color bars? Yes

Can I use them to adjust monitors, or at the head of a tape for the broadcaster or dupe house? Yes

Thank you for your answer. The reason I was asking if color bars were true SMPTE was that I’ve read that e.g. in Premiere 5.x color bars were completely inaccurate (thought claimed to be true SMPTE) and you had to correct the values manually. This was corrected in Premiere 6.0 but I wanted to be sure it wasn’t the case with VV3. Once again thank you both of you guys.

in the color bars there is 1 purge ( black) to set brightness . is that purge 11 ire, 7.5 ire or 3.5 ire ? i'm guessing 3.5 based on the DV standard is 0 ire ( for both pal/ntsc)
