Color correction not going away!!!

pjrey wrote on 3/5/2005, 5:54 PM
hello all! i have vegas5. weird problem here. i was messing around today, masking myself sitting by myself on the couch (girlfriend thought i had lost it)..
everthing going fine... split the track, but one above the other, mask out half the screen...
ok... i got it all lined up, looking fine.. the color and lighting is terrible.. and i thought.. hmm... lets play around. so i was messing around with video FX color correcters...
i could click the effect i want, and drag it on the TOP video clip... edit it.. hmm liked it, saved it...
and applied the saved one to the bottom clip so it would be identical...
great.. worked fine...
then i thought, no, i dont like this... so i removed the top effect, then the bottom effect....

but now when i play the clip (no effects anywhere..) the top clip is desaturated and slowely gets more and more red... its very subtle.. but you guys could easily pick it out...
whats going on?

like i said.. no effects anywhere
no master effects.. no track effexts... (i did have some, but i removed them all)
ive played with this problem lots.. and it always does what i tell it..
this time its talking back, and i dont like it! how do i fix this missbehavior!!??
hit it.. gently?

im tried copying the tracks.. and pasting.. but its still doing the same thing...
(its not the clip itslef, they are identical....in color and lum)

i justed check again, right now... this is killing me...
i can post a part of it if it would help anyone....

sorry for being so long..
hope i didnt leave anything out...

What you describe is the effect you would get when you have accidentally added a keyframe to an FX. I suspect that you still have the FX applied (probably to both events). If you have an FX applied on an event the icon for the FX button will be brighter.

The solution is to <truly> remove the FX (click on the fX Icon and then click the button to remove it)... or you have got to find the keyframe you have still in effect that is causing the problem and delete it.

no effects anywhere... no keyframes either... i am somewhat familiar with vegas... started using it with version 3....

this is unlike anything ive ever seen....

the green FX bottom is dark.. its not green.. there are no effects in the chain...
no keyframes, in either clips...
no keyframes in the timeline...

no master effects....

wonder whats going on...

By chance did you use any composting in the header area? If so, try adding a couple new tracks and move your vids to those and see if the problem goes away.

thanks billyboy, but done that already.. no luck...

Well, I'm fresh out of ideas. Like Lima said, sounds like some keyframe somewhere doing something. You sure none slipped into the track header on on the preview window? Just look for green FX icons everywhere.

Lik billybee said... something is definitely up.... post the veg file somewhere so we can see it?

There is a brightness FX on the single short event on track 1. Not sure if this is responsible for what you are seeing... but as you mentioned there were absolutely no FX's on any video event I thought it might be worth it mentioning.

Have you checked for any effects applied to clips in the media pool?

what do you mean by that? dont they have to be on the timeline in order to apply effects...

i closed it and re-opened the project today, and the difference is still there.....

the two of me are from one clip.. i never stopped the camera or moved it... i sat in one position and talked, and then moved and sat down right besides where i had been sitting.. adn talked to myself again...

if i look at the original clip.. it looks good.. all the way thru..
this doesntt matter at all.. this whole thing.. im just thinking i would hate to run into something like this when it really did matter....

thanks again all!

You can apply an FX to clips directly IN the media pool (right-click media and see the menu option for "Media FX") - not just on the timeline. This means the FX is applied to the clip automatically wherever you use it.

In your case however... there are no FX's applied at the media level in your veg (I checked).

no, i applied no effects to the clip itself (and if i would have, they would still both be the same, being that they are the same AVI file to begine with...) i just slip the ONE clip into TWO.. laying one on top of the other.....

this is very strange...

im going to try it again... from scratch...

thanks
