Color Correction On Only A Portion Of Video Track

I am new to VMS and I need to know how to do color correction on only a portion of a video track. I have taken a video from a VHS tape which was filmed by an amateur (not me) partly outdoors where the color balance is good, but the major portion of the video was filmed indoors under fluorescent lighting and the color is off. I have tried doing color correction, but whatever color correction settings I use have an effect on the whole video. How do I correct the color on only the part of the video track needing color correction?

Are you applying the correction to the track or to the event? If to the track then probably the easiest thing to do is to split the video event at the points where you need the correction to start or end, then move those portions that don't need the correction to another track.

If applying the correction to the event then you can still do the splits, then use the correction only on those pieces that need it and remove it from those that don't. An advantage is that every piece can get separate correction from the others.

Better yet is to use keyframes. There's a tiny little timeline at the bottom of the color correction window. By adding points to this timeline you can change the color correction settings at each point. Note that the normal behavior is for the settings to gradually change from one point to the next which probably is not the right thing to do. In order to force the settings to remain constant to the next point right-mouse-button click on the keyframe marker and choose Hold.

Thanks so much for the quick, concise and easy to understand instructions. I tried your suggestions and was successful in making the needed color corrections.
