Color correction - split?

Hello everyone,

I'm not very expert on color correction. I have a shot from an old 16mm film that was digitized. This is a 10 sec shot which has a very distinct light green tint. It is an indoor shot with pretty much light coming through the windows. When I attempt to color correct the shot in V4, my preview window shows the fx effect in only one-half of the preview monitor. After I render in MPEG2 (NTSF DVD), the result is inferior to either of the two preview monitor halves.

All I want to do is correct to intensify the red midtones. The result is the same regardless of which color correction plug-in I use. What don't I understand in applying a color correction fx?

As usual, thanks for your help.

Use the middle wheel on color corrector. It is assumed you first corrected any tint in shadows and highlights (first and last color wheel) using the eye dropper to set black and white points respectively. To intensify red in the midtones move the control up on the middle wheel. For warmer shades with a tad of yellow have it offset left of center. For cooler offset slightly to the right to pick up a little blue.

If you see two very different views in the previed windows sounds like you turned on the split screen viewer, the 4th icon from the left above the preview window.

See if my tutorials help:

Thanks, BillyBoy, you hit the nail on the head. I have never used the split screen before and I must have accidently turned it on.

I have looked at your tutorials on color correction but I think it is time for a refresher and a revisit.

Appreciate your quick diagnosis and expert advice!!!!!
