Color Corrector (Secondary): Entering values.

diverG wrote on 5/3/2012, 10:28 AM
Normally I simply use the sliders to adjust values however there are times when typing in a number is useful. For ' example boost mids' lifts saturation & gamma from 1.0 to 1.25. I can highlight the gamma value and type in 1.1 and this is accepted. It is not possible to type numbers into rotate, saturation, gain etc.
Yesterday is was on release 595 today 683. I know that yesterday I was able to enter values into both saturation & gamma fields.
Anyone else met this?

The good news 683 is yet to crash.

Clicking the "Custom" tab gives you the older interface where you can enter the values as before (pre 11). Same for the Color Corector.

Tried the custom tab before posting but to no good effect. This fault can be cleared by closing vegas and reopening. Sometimes it is possible to regain control is by simply switching to another FX in the chain and switching back.

Now using my laptop and again the problem is present so not machine specific.

It's not a major problem, just a tad annoying at times.

This sounds similar to the problem I've seen adding FX to Events. Check out this topic for my comments at the bottom of the page.

The "Custom" tab advice was probably over simplistic - my bad.

I now have a better understanding of your problem. I tried to reproduce on both my systems but could not - yet. I will keep an eye on this one and report should I get a similar issue.

I too cannot enter values for some parameters in the CC (Secondary) FX when the Display Preferences are set to "Use Vegas Color Scheme". However, if I uncheck the Vegas Color Scheme box & reload Vegas, I can still enter the numbers manually when using the old color scheme. (The old color scheme is lighter gray).

After starting-out with Vegas 3.0, I actually prefer the old (light gray) color scheme better. However, when color correcting (secondary) in V11 I now have the added step of clicking on the "custom" tab everytime I want to get the the color wheels. I hate that when I come back to the same clip I still have to click on "custom" to get to the color wheels.

Does anyone know how to change the Color Corrector (secondary) FX so that the window always opens to "Custom" (with the color wheel) vs. "Parameters" (no color wheel)? I find that color correction is taking longer in V11 since I have to keep clicking on "custom"...
This is also true for the primary Color Correction FX since I prefer to have the color wheels in a row vs. column.

My projects require micromanaging the color correction so this is important to me. I am glad the latest release is more stable, but this cosmetic change from V8/V9/V10 to V11 is making already tedious color work even more tedious.

@TheRhino

You do know that you can click the little triangles in front of Low, Mid and High for the Color Corrector as well as in front of the Chrominance for the Secondary Color Corrector to display color wheels in the parameters tab? The FX also remembers these selections.

The wheels in the Color Corrector unfortunately are below each other making it a bit messy. Maybe it is due to a limitation of the OFX standard?

Hope that helps
Willem.

Willem,

Sorry, I didn't explain the problem correctly from memory... For my workflow, after adding all of my clips to the timeline I select all of them and add my most commonly used FX to all of them at once - which are usually always Color Corrector, CC (Secondary), & Brightness & Contrast.

If I hit the triangle the color wheel will appear & remain if I leave CC (secondary) and return to the same clip. However, if I splice that clip in to smaller sections to micromanage the color correction of different scenes, I have to hit the triangle or "custom" tab each time I edit one of the smaller clips. After the first clip it doesn't keep the display settings although it retains the color correction settings.

I just tried that and I now understand the frustration. You are right in expecting the wheel or Custom tab to remain in the spilt event - it certainly does not. If it retains the other settings why not the tab or color wheel setting? Worthy of a ticket I would think.

Tried running VP11(64) in vista 64 (SP3) mode.

This has cleared the problem of entering values via the keyboard. All fields now accept direct entry. Running in Windows7 compatibilty was nearly as good with only the saturation field failing to accept keyboard entry.

Also noted that vegas has not crashed since switching into vista compatibility. About 16 hours of useage.
