I don’t believe the project has a color depth. This is something that would be handled in a render. All renders that involved compression are usually 24 bit (R8,G8,B8) while uncompressed video can be 32 bit (R8,G8,B8,A8).

Why do you want to change the color depth of your video? Are you confusing this with the color depth of your PC display (which can be 16, 24 or 32 bit)?

Tstone is trying to solve the problem in another post where the AVI file doesn't show any video in Vegas but media player can play it. Unfortunately, we've not been informed of what is in the AVI (what codec was used), but you can bet that it's simply a matter of Vegas not having access to a codec that can handle what the AVI contains.

I believe you're right Scott. After some more investigation it seems that the codec is the issue. I'm having new video rendered for the project, and am expecting the codec info to be supplied with it this time, so hopefully this will solve my issue. Many thanks all for your responses.

There are two types of Windows Video codecs, there is the standard "Video for Windows" codecs used by Vegas and Virtual Dub, for example. Then there are the "Direct Show" codecs, which can only be used in programs designed to use them, like Windows Media Player, for example.

Go HERE and download the free program, "Gspot" and use it to figure out exactly what codec was used to compress your file, then find a Video for Windows version of that codec so Vegas can read it.
