Color disappeared

This afternoon while capturing video from a vhs tape, needs editing, the color on the last ten minutes of the tape went to black and white. This is a good tape with good color and I happened to be watching when it changed scenes from a motel to the beach. Within a second, the color just seemed to drain out of the picture. When it finished, I checked it on another player and it played fine. I recaptured the bad portion and it captured fine.
Using Vegas 6.0d on a Win xp Pro SP3 machine.
Just finished editing and burning it to dvd and it looks good.
Any idea what happened?

Lynn

If you're capturing using an S video cable I'd say it was a bad cable. Otherwise, can't imagine.

Isn't analog video stored as chroma and luma or suchlike? If the chroma 'channel' was low in strength, I imagine it would head toward B&W.

Obviously, I'm just vaguely remembering stuff that sorta makes sense.
