color problem

i captured my video through pinnacle studio in a box. resolution 720x480, mpg form (captures in in mpg2 with option to convert file to avi.

i just did a light sharpen on a portion of my project and started rendering.

first, a five minute viseo takes 20 minutes to render. i tried dynamic memory but shift+b does not bring any window, so i went prefernces and changed it. how do i use all three gigs of my memory? my system preformance meters through windows xp shows 99% cpu usage and my memory shows 20% usage.

second, while rendering the portion of media, i get color distortion. meaning, there is an achor man on the screen wearing a red jacket, while watching the renedering preview, lines of pink come up across the red. it is almost like paint brush stripes. all i did to the video is a light sharpen because of vhs fuzz. any ideas how to fix this problem.

computer specs: amd-64-fx-51, 3gig drr400, 4 250gig maxtor 7200rpm hardrives, 2 120 gig maxtor 7200rpm(all hardrives defraged)

First, to use all your memory:
Options/Prefs/Video Set this to full setting.

Regarding the anchor man, etc. First thing I'd be looking at is the fact that it's MPEG, and likely not a good MPEG anyway. Second is, Vegas isn't an MPEG editor. You could be editing on B or P frames, not I frames. This could cause the problem you are experiencing.
