Color Shift on DV Capture

I'm using a Canopus ADVC-100 (Analog to DV converter) to capture Hi8 and convert it to DV for editing in Vegas. The only problem is that I have a very distinct grey-blue color shift. I thought that it was a problem with the ADVC. But when I used a shareware program called Virtual Edit to capture DV from the ADVC, the color shift was gone.

This makes me think that Vegas is altering the DV input in some way and that the Hardware may be alright. I must admit that I do not fully understand the signal path. Anybody have any ideas or experience with this combo?

Incidentally, I have recorded the analog signal through an AIW card and then used Vegas to compress it to DV. The picture looks great when I do this.

thanks - jim

Vegas isn't doing anything at all to the signal. The canopus is slightly 'hot' in adding luma, but that's all it's doing too. I'd say that the Virtual Edit app is showing incorrect information. To test this, print color bars to your camera, then recapture. Send color bars OUT of Virtual Edit, and import to Vegas as either a still or avi. Look at it on the scopes. you'll see it shift, I'll wager. Many apps attempt to compensate for the difference between a computer monitor and a broadcast monitor. (TV) Premiere used to do this, but no longer does since version 5.02c.
Regardless, I'm certain Vegas isn't responsible for shifting the color. It could be a codec read, because Virtual Edit probably can't read the Canopus codec accurately, but Vegas sure does. I've tested it (Canopus/Vegas) too many times.

I'll try the test with the Color Bars. I'm still confused about what is actually happening to the signal though. I just tried importing from the ADVC to Adobe Premiere 6.5 and the results are very different. They look a lot closer to the results that I was getting through the ATI card - but a littler more pixel-y. I've also captured still frames from the Vegas preview, then turned around and captured the same frames from VirtualDub, only to have the two versions look very different in Photoshop! It seems possible that the color shift is only happening in the Playback window and not actually encoded on the file. Does this make sense?
