Colour Correction

Used our Panasonic dvx 100a and freelancer's Sony p150 on recent 2-cam shoot.
Careful to white balance (warm card) and match f settings.
But in post colours are off.
Panny looks brilliant, clean and crisp----Sony looks flat in this case.
Not crisp, dull, and tending toward a brownish hue.
In need of a good tutorial on colour correction.

VASST just made a DVD on this. I'd suggest it, as it is probably very informative and not a bad price. I'm sure there are plenty of written files all around, so feel free to do a search in their box too, as it will look through all their materials, including articles etc...

First mistake was manually white balancing the two cameras. You should have used the tungsten setting if this was indoors. I have experimented with my Sony VX2000 (PD150) endlessly and have concluded that the tungsten setting works best every time for indoor shooting especially for stage productions.

pd150 is new to me.
So was the look in post.
Panasonic image was perfect.
But this isn't the right forum to go any further on that.
They are both great cameras.
OH,---by the way found a tutorial on Gary Kleiner's Vegas 5 Companion.
Good refresher for colour correction.

I agree with Dave -- the VAAST DVD looks like a real winner. I've ordered mine but it hasn't arrived yet. And DSE's tutorial is excellent.

I've found these tutorials very helpful.

Also, be sure to look carefully at the "Help" material that accompanies each color correction plug-in -- e.g., levels, the primary and secondary color correction plug-ins, color curves, HLS, Saturation, etc. I've found these to be extremely informative with regard to how the specific plug-ins perform.

And perhaps most importantly, use the waveform and parade scopes to see what you're actually doing to the picture.

Got my copy of Spot and Glenn's DVD on color correction two days ago. Sat down and watched if from fore to aft. It's loaded with information and tips, several of which I've already applied to a two camera project we're working on.

The disc is well indexed and the tutorials on virtually every color-correcting feature in Vegas are very easy to follow.

I HIGHLY recommend it.

The DVD Dave and JackW mentioned (I'm in it along with DSE) will show the button-pushing process to get there, showing you which buttons to push in the Vegas interface.
