Combine 2 or more events into one (MS Plat 14)

patrick-garrett wrote on 4/11/2017, 3:16 PM

I'd like adjust the duration of an entire project with multiple events. I know how to do a Time Stretch for each event But I'd like to do it for all selected events, rather than 1 by one. This capability probably exists I just don't know how because I can think of several useful cases... like a slideshow of still images that I want to match some music length.

1. Select all the events you want to adjust.

2. Push G

3. Stretch or shrink as one event on border of the first or last event of the group.

The function to group or ungroup you find at Edit/Group

ok I'm a video newby (experienced still photographer with LR & PS) I tried that as grouping made sense.Soon as I try to stretch only the event at the end is changed. I figured out a kludgy way. I export the timeline, then open it. since it is single event the stretch/compress works fine. I'm not sure that grouping is working though, I would expect to see some change in the selected items. I don't see anything happen, though I can ungroup it so I guess it is working.

Is it the Platinum version you have, as stated in the topic title?
In the plain Movie Studio it's not possible.

Look how it goes in the Platinum version

Yes it is Movie Studio Platinum 14... TRIAL version.

Anyway, I did the same things you did, and ONLY the last image was changed in duration. At first I thought it was because I was using a single video that I had edited down (deleted sections of the video.) However when I tried it on still images I got the same result. Does the fact that it is a TRIAL version have anything to do with the issue.

Overall I really like the product but I have soooo much to learn. Anyway thanks for the help.

Also one thing I will definately do is create slideshows (since I'm primarily a still photographer). Just took the "show me how". Still same issues with changing duration but since I can enter a length I can avoid that issue. Is there a way to get an auto-generated "Ken Burns" effect that is editable? I can easily generate the video in LR but it is not editable, and occasionally the auto-zoom choice is horrible... hopefully MS Plat can do what I want.

Thanks again for the help!!!

Thanks for the help. I found the issue. I was doing everything correctly but somehow "Ignore event Grouping" (ctrl+shift+u) got turned on. I turned it off and the group time adjustment is now working correctly. I also played around editing the pan, crop and fade to correct the shots that just don't work as auto generated. Slick... allows the perfectionist in me to get every image the way I want it yet have most of the work done auto magically.

BTW - love the product so far.

Does it make sense to set your project to 4k when your pics are less than 3k?

patrick-garrett wrote on 4/14/2017, 1:08 AM

Actually the pictures are 8688 x 5792... I shoot with a Canon 5Ds with a 50+mp sensor. To test MS I just grabbed some JPGs I sized for Facebook. The largest photo FB allows is 2048. Not sure what they do with video yet as I am just getting into it.

3POINT, I saw in your video you do a time-stretch of all events which works here too and which is fine for stills. Also fading all events in one go works fine. But I think changing the length of all events without using time-stretching would not work this way.

Marco, I didn't make that video, Cornico did!
