combine files

I got a dvd with two files on it. It was suppose to be a dvd that I could just watch, but it doesn't work that way. They put one mpeg file and the other is ac3. Of course the mpeg one has no sound, so I need to figure out how to do that. When looking at the explorer in Vegas it just shows the ac3 file but won't let me do anything with it. I know they use macs at the school where this was made. Any suggestions?

The mpg file is the video. The ac3 file is the audio. You need both to make a DVD.

Since, for whatever reason, this disk does not "play" ... copy both files to your hard drive. Open DVDA, import both files, then burn a new DVD.

Vegas will not import a AC3 file on its own (licensing issue). What you have to do is kind of fool Vegas into accepting the file by combing it with a video file... or faking that anyway.

You can download TSmuxeR (free download), import the ac3 file to it and output a M2TS file (no video file is necessary) and this *SHOULD* import to Vegas.

The other way is to use DVDa and create a fake dvd to your drive that includes the AC3 file... then import that.

I copied to my hard drive. I opened DVDA and then dragged the mpeg file to the project/menu area but how do I get the ac3 file to "combine" with the video file. If I drag the audio to the project area over the video it just plays as background music and not when I play the video. I haven't done this before so sorry if I'm doing it incorrectly. Could you explain further?

Drag your AC3 file to the time line the same way. It will show up as stereo but it will be AC3 on the disk. You can also right click on the empty audio track and an option to import an audio file will appear.

Another way is to click on the movie file in the disk build section then on the right side of DVDa you will see the properties for that movie. Open the audio properties and insert the path/name of the audio file you wish to include.

BTW... If the video and audio file names are the same and located in the same folder then DVDa will automatically link the 2 and both will be imported when you drag the video file in.

Hurray! The file names were slightly different so I renamed them the same thing and it worked. The only thing is that the audio plays when the menu screen is showing and also when I click on the thumbnail and the video starts. It's not a big deal but I really only need the audio to play during the video and not at the menu screen. Thanks for your help.

I should have looked at the menu properties closer before I posted last. It put the audio in the menu and with the video but I just deleted the menu/background media audio reference and it's fine now. Thanks again.
