Copy the areas of project 2 that you want, and paste them in project 1.
Have the top track of project 1 selected when you paste, and your track media should fall into correct placement.

The simplest most accurate method is to simply render that section and then bring that rendered file into the other project.

Might be simplest, I don't know about accurate, but at least 2 things occur if you render for export;
you've lost control of the new media in the other project, and may need to jump back and forth
You may wish to archive the two as a single project.
In addition, you'll incur another render of previously rendered media if anything is placed over the rendered media, or if any filters are applied. Granted, with Vegas' superior codec, this isn't a big deal, but it is never a good idea to compress more often than necessary. then again, with regard to rendering, I'm probably mentally stuck in the ages where we didn't render til absolutely necessary.
If you rendered to 4:2:2 or uncompressed and imported, you'd be better off, but you still lose control over adjusting the new media in the second project.

Agreed that you will lose control over additional editing and potential re-renders - in this case the you would avoid the re-renders by copying.

There are definite advantages to both methods and definite problems with both methods. It is important to use the one that best suits your needs for that project. This is a case where neither is "wrong" - just different.
