Combining RGB & Alpha Elements tape

Being a Vegas newbie I have received a tape which has a moving logo with the moving RGB element and the alpha (allwhite)of the same exact movement. In essence there is a hole cutter and a hole filler.

I was thinking that I could combine these elements and then lay that track over the background video. I have done this procedure with the AVID but I'm not sure how I should proceed with this in Vegas. Thanks for your help in advance!

Yup. Here's how you do it:

(1) Add two tracks above the background track
(2) Place the B&W alpha matte on the top track and the logo on the middle track (with the background track below it)
(3) Add the Sony Mask Generator FX to the alpha matte event on the top track
(4) On the Top (Matte) Track: Set the Compositing Mode to Multiply (Mask)
(5) On the Second (Logo) Track: Press the Make Compositing Child button (down arrow) to make it a child of the top track (the track header will indent to show the parent/child relationship)

That's it. You should now see the logo with the background track around it.

Thank you Johnny. I needed to adjust the "high in" down a bit to make the matte totally cover the background

My next question related to this is after I create this combined element, what is the best most efficient way to put a drop shadow on this logo?

On the Avid DS I would just make a graphic container out of these 2 elements, but with Vegas can I combine the 2 elements to one track without having to make a new file and then put that file on the timeline?

What is the best way to make a "nested clip" which I can easily go back and change something without creating another file (the combined matte and RGB element)?

Thanks for your help!
