Combining two DVDs into one with menu and text

I just sang in an opera. "Home movies" were taken of two performances with a different cast (less than an hour each). I want to combine the two into one DVD with a menu and some text describing each cast and then give each cast member a copy as a Christmas gift. I just installed Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0 and DVD Architect Studio 5.0. Neither recognizes the file types on my DVDs: .BUP (50KB), .IFO (50KB) followed by five .VOB (each 1,048,574KB). I went through the tutorials. What am I missing?

I have Vegas pro but I think this works in VMS as well.

FILE>IMPORT>DVD (or something like that, it may say Camcorder DVD)

If you drag the VTS_01_0.IFO file to the timeline from Windows Explorer, Vegas Pro will import the DVD. I don't know if this works with the Studio version.

If not, you will have to first concatenate the .VOB files into one and give it a .mpg suffix, before loading into DVDA.

I just verified that dragging the .IFO file to the main menu in DVDA Pro also works. So do that for each source DVD and away you go. Too easy.

This implies of course that the two DVDs total less than 4.7 GB (or 8.5 GB for DL). If not, you will have to rerender to a lower bit rate so that they will fit.
