1] I can't D/L from the HOS Website. I've tried AV unblocking and that didn't work either.
2] However I CAN D/L directly from within HOS within VP. Good!
3] But this then crashes VP - I tried 3 times, maybe?
4] I tried was a CLEAN Install of HOS, which I've now lost my settings - no big deal, but I can't enter my S/N.
5] I then tried the Temp License option, but I still can't enter my S/N.
So, dear hearts ❤, I've got a Clean Install that I can't use and no ability to apply the license S/N I was given. I've emailed Wayne directly. I'm sure he can dig me out of this.
As there are 9 to choose from, is there any type of guidelines or recommendations for when to use which Resizer in HOS? Or is it more of a test all of them and see what you like best?
I still have problems with Kaspersky Antivirus causing OtterActivate.exe to be disabled. Workaround: turn off Kaspersky, copy Otteractivate back from archive and then start Vegas Pro, then activate Kaspersky again, works until next time Vegas closes. Very cumbersome... Whitelisting does not work, because Otteractivate is detected as malware by the heuristic and deleted. Since I have a business obligation to have effective virus protection on the PC, completely turning off the antivirus/antimalware is not possible, even if I explicitly allow the domain that Otteractivate calls, deactivation/blocking occurs. Hence my question: How does Offlineactivate.exe work?
"Whitelisting does not work, because Otteractivate is detected as malware by the heuristic and deleted."
If there's no way that you can whitelist an application so that it is not quarantined from your system, it sounds as if there may be an issue with your AV. The inability of a user to override just doesn't seem right.
Offline activation enables a user to activate HOS without being online. It generates a hardware ID, from which I can generate a license file, which in turn the user can then activate the software using OtterActivate.
What's a bit annoying is that after the last update to OA, VirusTotal showed no problems including Kaspersky. Now it appears that both Kaspersky and ZA show detections (2 of 70). Apparently, the heuristics have changed, OA hasn't.
@michael-harrison I have it to in addition to Bitdefender and Malwarebytes Pro constantly monitoring my computer. I just started VP18 and used HOS to KwikPreview a clip of video and no warnings popped up on my computer.
I do have the latest HOS build installed. Windows is up to date along with my A/V protection. I ran a scan of my computer with Windows Defender. Nothing found. I then started VP18, WinDefender on, which also loads of HOS and still no notifications of any threat.
I also ran a scan specifically on the otteractivate.exe file with Bitdefender where I had it as an exclusion. I removed the exclusion, which put the file in quarantine with this reason: Trojan.GenericKD.36119534
I couldn't find any info on it. Bitdefender promptly deleted the file. HOS is still running in VP18.
This is definitely a problem since I have no control over the ever-changing heuristics used by these AV apps. To illustrate, when I re-wrote OtterActivate a few months ago so that it only used the libraries from the licensing software that I use, it tested completely clean in VirusTotal. When a new build was released in Dec, two (Kaspersky and ZA) of the 70 or so engines detected the file. I checked VirusTotal a few minutes ago, and it showed 4 hits from a run 3 days ago. I've just forced a rescan and it now shows 13 despite the fact that the file is the same. I'll contact the licensing developer once again.
Regarding Bitdefender, it seems that there should be a setting that prohibits it from automatically deleting a suspected file altogether. I can understand quarantining a suspected file and giving the user the choice of whether to "override" that decision, but simply deleting it altogether giving the user no choice seems a bit over the top.
Reduced likelihood of AntiVirus false positives. This has been a recurring issue that is hopefuly fixed. New version and the now infamous OtterActivate.exe both tested clean in using VirusTotal.

I'd like to suggest a small addition to the R+ "After Render" options.
Would it be possible when the "Shutdown" option is selected to provide a warning popup with something like a 90 second countdown allowing the user to abort the shutdown?
The reason I ask is that I just lost a ton of work when R+ shutdown my computer with no warning. I'd forgotten that I had selected that option when I set it to render a project. OK, maybe my fault for forgetting, and not saving my work often enough, but it's hella frustrating. I think a countdown option would be extremely useful.
