Communication Failure During Print to Tape

While printing to tape via my Adaptec firewire card to my Sony TRV27 Camera, I get the error "the current device has had a communication failure, please dismiss the dialogue box and then cycle power on the device". If I don't acknowledge the dialogue box, the tape continues to record normally. It also looks like I am dropping some frames (althought not alot)

I have an ASUS MB VIA Chipset (CUV4X-DLS) Dual 1GHz processors. I have dedicated U160 15k Cheetah Drive. I use a digital audio labs CardDeluxe and an Adaptec 2940U card for my SCSI CD Burner. I am running W2K, with 8.1 DirectX.

Has anyone had issues with the Adaptec Card versus a SIIG?

Any suggestion would be much appreciated.

I have never been quite sure what was going on, but I had similar problems 6 months ago when I first started with VV. Turns out that the card was fine, I just had to change drives for destination of things. C: for OS, D: for Capture, the C: for rendering. Some people seem to think this odd, but it works and I have not dropped a frame since.

NOW, for the really odd part: I still get that message about a communication failure, but NOTHING has ever seemed wrong. All my prints are fine, the camcorder keeps going, everything looks fine. SoFo has never answered me about what is going on.

Thanks, I will try this weekend. I just picked up a 200GB 7200 RPM firewire drive. I can test this acouple different ways. Thanks for the help! Jay

Be aware that there may be problems from the Firewire drive, itself. Do a search on Firewire and you might not buy that drive. Then, again, when they DO work, they are well liked.
