Comparing Neo Scene and Gearshift volume levels

In an effort to improve preview when editing in VP9a, I've done a side by side comparison with Cineform Neo Scene and VAAST Gearshift on the same AVCHD clip. I had the preview set on good/half. Both NS and GS played the clip OK, although, GS seemed slightly smoother. However, the big shock to me was the volume of the audio. Neo Scene cut the volume way back and I had to add 12db of boost to bring it up to the level of Gearshift. I didn't realise that NS was doing this and it explains why a couple of my projects have been down in volume. Am I doing something wrong here? Is there a setting in NS that I've missed? Any thoughts?

Are you starting with video with stereo video or with some sort of 5.1 surround? It sounds to me like you are starting with surround.

Yes, it was 5.1 set on the audio. But why would one app treat that differently to the other?

Cineform Neo Scene doesn't include its own AC3 decoder and, therefore, relies on a third-party AC3 decoder.

The same volume problem was discussed in the thread linked below on the Cineform support forum. Turns out that Eugenia was using an older version of the AC3 decoder.

Thanks John. The problem was the old version of the AC3 decoder.
