Comparing Vegas 4.0 to Movie Studio Platinum

I've been using Vegas Video 4.0 since it came out. I come from a Professional Video shooting and editing background. Now, I'm just a casual user (home videos of my grandchildren and family affairs mostly) and find 4.0 more than I need. Would anyone have an opinion as to whether or not Vegas Movie Maker Platinum Edition 8.0 with DVD Creative Software will out perform Vegas Video 4.0? I noticed there is a Vegas Movie Studio Forum; however, I would greatly value the opinion of the Vegas Video community if it is not an imposition or an improper post on this forum. Thank you in advance for any information you can share with me. Regards, Tony M.

What are you missing with Vegas 4?

Probably not that much that you would find in Movie Studio 8

It depends on the type of video you shoot, there are things you can do in 4 that you can do VMS8. There is stufff VMS8 does that V4 will not do.

If you really feel the need to upgrade, I would wait a few months and upgrade from Vegas 4 to Vegas 8 Pro. There usually is a discount when a new edition comes out. It would cost more than going to VMS 8, but it would be much better value and you wouldn't lose anything.

Vegas 4 was one of the best releases of Vegas, ran rock solid even on old machines. Also if your computer isn't newish, I would not think of upgrading.
