Compatibility Playing back Movies

I have produced a movie rendering it to a file then burned it as a data file to the to a CD like you would any finished file. The file plays back fine from the CD on the PC it was produced on but will not play back on another PC using Window Media Player 7.1 or Jet Audio. These two players will play about anything!!

I made this movie with the MPEG 2 codec supplied with Vegas Video so it did not appear to me that it was necessary to burn it to a CD using the SVCD format since this was not the format it was rendered to. Can someone assist?? Please??

The file can be played back from a CD you burned as a data file on your computer because regardless which file option you selected the codec it needs to decode the file is already installed on your PC. To play it back on a set top DVD player you MUST encode it with either the NTSC or PAL template. This process creates extra files needed by your DVD player your computer does not need. Even if you do it correctly that is no guarantee in itself your video will play on every DVD player. Check the VCDHELP site for specifcs as to compatibility of various DVD players for playing a VCD and SVCD video successfully. There are issues; media type, media reflectivity, max bitrate supported to name a few. There are many posts in this form and over at http://www.vcdhelp.com that can offer more specifics. :-)

It's going to be a codec issue. I visit the DVDit forum and there are lots of posts from people who have codec problems particularly with Media Player 7. Try having a look there & see if anything may help you. Here is one link
