compatibility question

Usually I burn DVD-Rs and I've had much sucess with them but since I got a new DVD burner that can burn DVDs with the booktype of DVD-Rom, I'm wondering which is more compatibile; a DVD-R or a DVD+R burned with the booktype of DVD-Rom. And another question...can you burn DVD-Rs with the booktype of DVD-Rom and if so, how do they rank in compatibility?

Thanks

So far, every customer I've had with an older player (and in a couple of cases, a newer but picky player) who couldn't play a -R we burned, could play a +R with a DVD-ROM booktype. I've not seen any sort of formal compatibility tests though.

Some of my equipment will only burn -R's which is why I've not converted over exclusively to +R with DVD-ROM.

DVD-R's cannot have their booktype changed.
