I'm not sure what format is acceptable to you, but Windows Media File with perhaps a smaller display window size should give a fraction of the size.

Are you making a video DVD that can be played in a set-top player? If so, the only format you can use is MPEG2, which will be, on average, about 1/5 the size of a DV .avi file. If you use DVD Architect to make your DVD then it will compress the AVI file to MPEG2 automatically.

I'm going to guess your video is about 34 minutes long? If so, that will fit on a video DVD with plenty of room to spare.
