Computer freezes during capture aft 17 minutes

As per several forum users suggestions, I have been able to capture both analog audio and video via the dv cam and tape removed. Thanks! However, now I try to capture all 50 minutes of tape and my computer freezes, once around 17 minutes into capture and once at about 20 minutes. Any ideas on what's causing this?

YOur harddrive is formatted as FAT32. If you are using Windows XP, you need to either Reformat or Convert your drive to NTFS.

If you are using Win98 or ME, then 17 minutes is the most you can capture at one file. This is a Windows limitation, not Sony.

I felt foolish when, after posting the original message, I read in the manual what you just stated. However, when I checked the properties of my C drive, it shows it to be NTFS formatted. Can there be another reason, or is it still related?

Is that the only drive on your system? How much free space is there?

It has over 100 gb of free space, and up till today, was the only HD except the recover drive hp uses. I had an 80 gig external I was going to use at the office for back ups that I installed today out of the box, ran a format, connected via firewire, and was able to capture 25 minutes before lock up. Is this one of those things you just work around and don't let capture go for more than 15 minutes?
