Computer novice needs help

I cant record/print back onto Casette and cant burn DVD-Rs anymore.

1) I used to burn DVD-Rs. No problem. (Got plenty of them). Then I got a new writer (Liteon) capable of burning - and + however, I can only burn + now.

2) The program does not recognize my camera anymore ?! The Digital Video Device window only shows the 'Pinnacle Studio' that came with the computer but not my camera. When trying to print it shows "Your device is offline" - but it is connected (as always!)

Pls advise where / how do I correct these two changes. Thanks.

re: #1, what version of DVDA are you using? You might get better results if you prepare the files for burning, then use Nero to do the actual burn. Especially if you aren't on the latest DVDA.

I am using DVD Architect 1.0 (came with Vegas 4.0). Quality is good.

My problem is that I was able to burn - and now only + .

You'll want to download DVD 1.0d from the sony website. That's the most recent build of that version.

Is your computer recognizing your camera when attached? Perhaps reset your 1394 driver. Also, check for updated firmware for your burner. You never know....

just some thoughts...

I did that but ..... no changes.
Thanks anyhow.
By the way, the camera is recognized when importing just not when exporting.

DVDA 1.0, regardless of the rev level, may not recognize your new writer. The d rev looks like it came out in 2003.

Not for nothing - I traced some dates thus

1) I got the new writer last year and actually did burn some DVD-R's with it. All was fine. That was last year. Nothing changed in my setup however, now it will not accept - but + only.

I am guessing 'something' is overriding the old internal setup and I dont know what to look for and how to go about it to change the setup functions back.

2) Concerning not recognizing my camera when trying to print back I wonder if some internal changes may have occured when I attached a sony digital still camera. I am operating XP version and the camera automatically uploads through USB port. I disconnected the camera but that did not change anything.

I would be thankful for any advise.

My bad, I assumed new writer meant more recent than last year, and I didn't realize you had previously written -R with this drive.

To troubleshoot, take dvda out of the equation. Use nero or some other dvd software (possibly can find a trial version at their website if you don't have it) and see if you can write a previously prepared dvd to a -R disk successfully. If you cannot, the problem is with the hardware.

If you can write with nero, then perhaps a reinstall of dvda might be in order.

By the way, the camera is recognized when importing just not when exporting.

Your camera has a DV in/out setting somewhere in its menu. If the camera is set to copy data to the computer, it can't copy data from the computer, and vice versa.
