Computer Query

More a computer query than a Vegas question:
System specs:
CPU: Intel (R) Pentium 4
3.00 Hz
1.0 GB memory
ID P4C81106
Hanging and crashing with great regularity editing/rendering.
CPU is not overheating.
No viruses.
Nothing running in BG.
Vegas takings forever to load sometimes, and other times is there in seconds.
But second instance of Vegas can sometimes take up to 3.5 minutes to load.
What do you suspect? Any thoughts?

I assume your specs are correct and related to this particular computer.
I would check the MOBO drivers and make sure they are up to date as it could be affecting throughput on your disks. Speaking of- what hard disk drives do you have- are they internal or external? What drive is Vegas running on? Did this problem just start or has it always been there? Sometimes PCI cards can cause some issues- especially if they are a SATA cards or EIDE cards.

Hey J,

Vegas is on my operations drive (200GB Western Digital IDE)
Two RAIDED 250 GB drives on board as well.
Six other swappable HDs ranging from 80GM to 200, all IDEs.
Had this problem for some time, months and it has been a source of some frustration.
On the verge of buying a Boxx.

I had a similar issue when I first installed Vegas 6- sometimes the splash screen would just hang. I took out an IEDE PCI card and updated my system drivers and now no problems. I don't know if this is a fix for you, but I installed the newest windows updates as well as the system updates for my board and nvidia chipset. (I removed the PCI card due to extremely long boot times). Sometimes RAID can do some weird things.
I would start from the easiest thing to check and move on to the harder ones until you get it solved. Updates would be where I would start.

I'm not a technician, but thanks anyway.
