Computer shuts off during render

I have a 60-minute long video to be burned to a DVD. While the video was in the process of rendering to MPEG2, the computer shut down at about the 70% point of the render and automatically restarted after Windows installed a security update.

When I checked the file, the rendered portion was there, but my question is, do I have to re-render the whole thing from the beginning? If I make a selection at the point where it stopped and render only that, can I then copy and paste it to add to the first portion, and will it burn to the DVD smoothly where it joins?

Obviously I could try it and see if it works, but it's a long video and I was hoping someone would have an answer. Thanks:-)

If you're rendering to mpeg2, you either need to re-render the entire thing, or attempt to stitch it together in Womble or something similar.
The shutdown may well be caused by heat. This shuts down a *lot* of systems during MPEG render.

Thanks Spot - guess that means I better start re-rendering.

BTW - the reason it shut down was because of an automatic update and restart by Windows - I have 4 fans in my editing computer and turn them on full blast whenever I do a long render, so if I have heat problems, then I'm really in trouble! :-)

Do check out the vents? More blast of air makes more air born stuff flying about .. yeah? - Please have a look see at the intakes and the actual fins over the CPU. Can you see the fins through the fan blades? I say this - 'cos I couldn't!! And that was my rendering stopped in its tracks.

I take it this means that your machine is online all the time. If so, disconnect it anytime you're doing any kind of editing task as it adds another strain to the system that you really don't want or need.
