I have been using VEGAS for years now. I am currently using version 9 and recently when I started rendering my edited product, it will start to run for awhile then after awhile, it completely shuts down my computer.
Not sure what is going on?
Your CPU is overheating during rendering, I can almost promise.
Open the case, thoroughly clean the fan, fins, and vents, and install a higher capacity fan if necessary.
Musicvid is correct! Your computer is overheating and is shutting down in an effort to protect itself from a certain death.
I had this happen about 1 1/2 years ago when I was rendering my first test of HDV footage called "Ducks." It put a larger than usual load on the compuer and poof -- shutdown.
Get a can of that "Dust Destroyer" or "Dust Off" stuff from Staples or Costco and spray like crazy all over your computer, especially in the area of your fan. Open the hatch to your fan area if it is accessible and spray in there. You will be totally grossed out by the amount of fuzz, fur, particles, etc. that comes out. My laptop was only a year old at the time and it had a huge layer of crud in there. It is amazing how much dust collects in such a short time.
After your initial dusting, be sure to dust regularly. I like to dust weekly. That may be overkill, but better safe than sorry!
While you have the cover off don't forget to also clean the fan for the power supply. After seven years my power supply fan died and had to be replaced. it was also causing the computer to shut down. Because the power supply was proprietary I had to also replace the case. I've learned my lesson. No more proprietary hardware in the computer.
Thank you all for the advise and help. I got the air can today and used it and things seem to be working OK as of now. I will make sure to clean it every few weeks just to make sure.
Thanks!
