Computer to TV video transfer - How to do it?

Hi there.

I’m having trouble transferring video from the computer to the TV.

Does anyone know how can I do this?

Here’s how I tried to do it:

VEGAS VIDEO 3

Preferences --> Video Device --> Selected that Firewire card option (can’t really remember) -->
Played video in VV --> audio to digital converter Line-Out --> VCR Line-In (2)

I did all that, but nothing displayed on my TV.

Also, I couldn’t see the video in VV, instead I saw a black screen that displayed something like ‘Preview/Video Recompressed’ or something like that. I was able to hear the audio.

Does anyone know what I can do to view my videos on my TV/VCR?

Thanks :-)
Jenny

how are you running it to your tv? is it through a tv out card, usb, firewire?

try doing it with another video (one that you can see the frames on)

if the video is not in windows format (or whatever format you used in your video device option, then it probably would not play. (that is just a hypothesis)

also, what kind of video out are you doing... straight from a camera or on your hard drive or what... you may need a codec if you are doing it from a camera.

If you have the audio to digital conversion feature turned on on your camcorder, it's supposed to be turned off, (and also, if you want to use this feature to transcode analog to digital, remember to turn off device control in Vegas' preferences). Also, I vaguely recall that you're supposed to use the standard OHCI1394 driver for your firewire card, not the Texas instruments one, (on your desktop, rt clk on My Computer>properties>device manager. Make sure your fire wire card shows up and is properly installed-(no big yellow or red exclamation or question marks). If it shows up, clk on it, clk on the driver tab and see what driver you're using..change it to the Microsoft driver if the Texas Inst. one shows..

Right. It sounds like the camera needs to be in "DV in" mode which is usually found in the VCR mode. Then, take the s-video or composite video out to your TV.

I am running it like this:

Firewire Card --> analog to digital converter (it also has digital to analog abilities) --> TV

Ok. I’m gonna give that a try when I get home.

What’s wrong with using the Texas Instruments driver (I think that’s the one I use)?

What do you mean: ‘…usually found in the VCR mode.’

Thanks guys.

Jenny W, The TI drivers tend to be buggy and aren't very compatible with lots of Windows software. Sonic Dennis' comment refers to the mode switch on the camcorder for Camera (recording through the lens) vs. VCR (playing back or recording from the other inputs).

I personally use the PC through Dazzle Hollywood Bridge to VCR, with a cable running from video out on the vcr to a 9" TV just so I can confirm the output......I know some don't like Bridge, but it has worked for me.

I tend to notice alot more dropped frames with it with analog->digital conversion tho....
