Concurrent Video / audio streaming???

I want to do the following, but I want to make sure I am approaching this correctly!

I want to stream a camera and four channels of audio at the same time. I don't want to use the camera's audio tracks. Can I capture all of this at the same time. I want to avoid capturing the camera footage and audio seperately, then syncing them up later. I also want to avoid having to remember to hit record on the camera AND the audio for every take. Am I missing something??? What is the best approach?

Let me rephrase...

Do most of you who have multi-channel sound to sync with your video just record audio / video seperate, sync them, then delete the camera audio at edit time?

Thanks for any responses!

My approach would probably be influenced most by the type of equipment I had to use. Presently, based on my equipment, it would be far simpler, and safer, for me to get totally separate recordings of video and each audio source. I'm guessing from your description, that you have no use for multi-video tracks on this projects - so, I would use a single cam to capture all video along with an audio track that can be useful to sync things after the shoot.

If your site conditions allow, you could use four mics and mix down to a single stereo track, but, you won't have much flexibility after the shoot. I'd prefer to capture each audio sorce separately in mono (or stereo if you have enough mics) and then use Vegas to sync and adjust levels, effects, etc.

For me, Vegas is a very effective sync tool that takes the guesswork and tedium out of the process completely.

If you are fortunate enough to have a soundcard that can handle the number of analog inputs you require, you could send your mics directly to your soundcard and avoid the necessity of having to sync afterward (I've never tried this).

Good luck with your project.
