Confusion about warning messages

What did I do wrong. The first thing that I did when I opened DVDA & selected my MPEG2 was to check with optomize to see just what it was saying there before I proceeded to make menus. It indicated that the video would not need to be recompressed & that the size was about 90%. I created 3 menus with 27 animated thumbnails & then checked back with optomize. Once again the only thing it said would be processed would be the new menus & opening. The total size had increased by about 100MB due to the new chapter menu's & the total was still just over 90%.

Perhaps the next think I did was wrong. I just wanted to try out the sliders that set the file to either increase or decrease file size. I saw that if you clicked on just one item than the slider effected all tracks size. I clicked on the recompress button to see it's effect, noted this then turned it off again.

I then went to the make DVD menu & choose the prepare DVD option. The first three lines have me really confused. The first warning said that I didn't have enough space in the temporary file folder to make the DVD. The folder is on a drive that reports 65GB free space. Just how much space does the sysyem want to make a DVD that will be less then 4.7GB?

The second & third warnings said that both my audio & video would need to be recompressed. This was despite the fact that I had turned off the recompress button under optomize & that the whole project was only going to come out at about 91-92%. Does the don't recompress button have to be reset in some way?

What did I do wrong?

First of all....most likely - when you checked and then unchecked the recompress button - your file size changed and you over looked that thinking that just by undoing your previous action you didn't change anything.

But you did.

I noticed that just this evening when testing an optimaization for a DVD I"m preparing.

As for the "error" that there may not be enough room - you will have to 2xcheck that the drive has that much space...and that you were actually pointing to that drive.

I have yet to see a situation where I was pointing to a temporary folder with gogobs of space and DVDA reported it wrong. But even if you did accidently inflate the DVD size to over 10 gig....it would only want to take up roughly twice the space...and with 65 gig, you would have tons of space left over.

So it sounds to me that it is not pointing to where you think it is suppose to be pointing.

Or...you could have your system set up with an allocation (for that folder) of a certain level and that is what you are getting reported. However, how could we know that that is how you have your system set up - you would have to know that one. I don't think that is the case (I don't know too many people who put restrictions on their home comptuers...work, yes - college, yes...home, not so much). But it's a thought.
