To fellow Vegas user, Stan Harrington....again.

At the first AIFI film festival, his movie "Bred In the Bone" won Best Feature, and Audience choice award. I was privileged to see the showing at Mann's Chinese Theatre, and the theatre was packed, even at an 11:00 p.m. showing. Even the theatre management commented on the sheer number of people lined up to see the show. At the Q/A session after the film, Stan mentioned that Vegas had given him the muscle and ability he needed to make the film work. Turned out there were quite a few questions about Vegas from the audience. That was a lot of fun, hearing FCP and Avid users wanting to know how he did it, as he expressed that he'd never edited before to the entire audience.

Read about how Stan made the movie, for a guy that had never held a camera or edited a frame...it's like a Cinderella story.
Great to see Vegas being presented in this light.

BTW, third congrats to Stan, he just became a US citizen.
[edit] just found out he was also nominated for Best of Show.

So where do we get to see the film? Is it on ifilm yet?
Spot|DSE wrote on 10/14/2005, 10:26 PM
I dunno. You'll have to wait for Stan to check in here and let us know.
It's on IMDB
The impression I got was it's going to distribution after this festival.

Oh boy...just logged in...thanks for the kind words Spot...the festival was FAIF (foundation for the advancement of Independent Films) and the award was the Audience Choice Award for "Best Feature Film".

After thanking Sony and Vasst for putting out the products that made it even possible I was approached by several people including a UK Vegas user whose film was in the fest. His name was Matt Daniels and also a huge advocate for Vegas. I'm sure a few people were switched or sold.

Thanks again for the interest in the film. I am still seeking out distribution so until then it can only be seen at festivals. A trailer can be seen on my website at www.xristosproductions.com (Bred Trailer)

Thanks again, Vegas forum, Spot and Mannie, and Sony for a great product...

Stan & Sony

you need to get to know each other! Hope Sony uses the story in some new marketing. I'm tired of hearing Premier / avid / fcp as the top of the list when people mention editors.

Big-Time Congratulations!
As a guy who aspires to join the ranks of Indy Movie Makers, you are definitely an inspiration to me. I'm very pleased for your accomplishments and that they're being properly recognized.

Stan, provided you still have the time between the jury duty and voting :) - congrats on your naturalization! - check out Mark Tapio Kines' story on how he managed to "get a million strangers to listen" and "where can I see your movie" ideas: Foreign Correspondents.

"Create a comprehensive web site for [the film]... offering the reader rare access to props, photos, footage and insight that only a writer/director can provide... In the first year of the site's existence, it managed to raise over $90,000 in investments - from absolute strangers."

Also, check out IFC' digital initiative: In|Dig|Ent

"To date, InDigEnt has produced sixteen films by innovative filmmakers [incl. Ethan Hawke's first feature Chelsea Walls] and has pioneered a unique film-financing/profit-participation structure in the process, one that is now regarded as a standard in low-budget filmmaking."

DV EXPO WEST: see if Sony would be interested to have you as one of their keynotes at DV Expo West - the making of Bred In The Bone and Sony Vegas.

Good luck with the film distribution.

Glad I logged in...thanks for the advice...I'm not logged on very often lately but I will be in a couple of weeks when I start shooting my next film...The forum will once again have to deal with my Newbie questions...I believe that is the term for the "inexperienced"...watch out!

Thanks again,
Cheers,

btw, what's with a fatalistic year of 2057 you set for yourself in the bio?! For crying out loud, have some
'sympathy for the devil', so to speak! Trust me, it's going to be more like 120 painfully creative years :)

PS Hey, Pat, Between You And Me shows some seriously awesome storytelling skills! The culmination roof scene of zeroing in on the girl's window is a terrific find both in terms of narration and how you shot it :) btw, does it help to have an 'Oscar' already part of the crew?!

Only one comment, directing/acting-wise, if I may, but it's not like you don't already know that... There're a couple of basic don'ts on the movie set: you don't look at the watch & you don't stare into the camera... There're 3 shots when Alexandra looks straight into the lens: the initial meeting-the sunset-the last scene. The 1st and the last ones help tell the story, but personally, you lost me for a split second at sunset, when her eyes 'searched for the lens'/direction... She didn't 'stare', but that kinda broke the flow there... just my humble $.02.

Thanks for sharing your work with us and good luck!
