Congrats to Cheno/East Hollywood!

Our own Cheno, (Mike Chenoweth) is a teacher at a film school in Salt Lake City, and they've been getting national attention lately due to a pilot they have going, and the level of celebrity interest as well.
The school was featured in this morning's Tribune, East Hollywood High School and Mike is a central figure in the story. If you could see the print version of the story, there are two really nice shots of Vegas in the article as well. Congrats to you, Cheno!
For those of you attending Sundance Film Festival next month, Cheno will be there representing Sony and VASST, doing the stage presentations of Vegas and HDV for all the Hollywood and wanna-be Hollywood directors. Make sure you go over and say "hello."

Major Congrats to Cheno. I wish this was available back when I was in high school. Starting a charter school is a huge accomplishment and to get the students to remain engaged is the most important thing and from the article, it appears that Cheno has students with their heads on straight.

Hopefully one day my skills and knowledge of video editing will allow me to marry teaching and my love video/films in a classroom setting.

Man, now I wish I could go back to high school.

Thanks guys for the compliments. I have to say it's a huge, collaborative process and I'm but one in a wheel with many spokes.

We've had great support from many, many people some of which are from this very forum as well as over at the DMN. It's great to see people get excited about teaching such a skill base to students. The hardest thing is wanting to engage everyone. Some are just meant to warm a chair even throughout the rest of their lives. Those that do click make it all worth it.

Id love to start something like this in Florida but I wouldnt even begin to no where to start. Is video/film the only thing you teach or do you all also incorporate math, reading, sciences, etc... into your programs?

I teach in the film department. The school is a public high school and required by state to teach the state core curricula. Because film incorporates so many other areas of academics, we do our best in film to mesh where possible English, Math and other areas however in most cases the kids see a direct relationship between English and writing a screenplay when they're having hard time grammatically. The coined term here in the state is CrossCore where core classes and film classes meet in their curriculum. It's still under development but working very well.

Start to remove those spokes and the wheel falls apart! Don’t underestimate your contribution to the “whole” because it wouldn’t be complete without you. Congrats Cheno.

Every high school should be like a charter high school. I went to a vocational high school for one year and there is nothing like it. You are doing a great thing for those kids and it will influence them for the rest of their lives. Keep up the good work.
