Congrats to MJRoddy for winning the Vegas 10 second video contest! I met him this week, great that he is here for NAB. He was very excited to be in first place as of this morning.
Equal congrats to Dean/Orcatek for taking second place (and third) with his works as well.
It'll be fun presenting Matt with his prizes here at NAB.
Thanks to all that participated, and we're lookingforward to the next one, coming up before the week's end. This one is audio-only, so get your speakers fired up!

Congrats to all the winners and to everyone else who submitted entries. I truly enjoyed watching everyone's work. :)

Wow, do I feel dumb this morning! I would have sworn that Cathy's First Time was done by... well, let's just say someone else. That is no reflection on MJRoddy at all. It just goes to show how wrong we can be when we "assume" something.

Congrats to everyone!

Congrats to the winner and runner-up and thanks also to them (and everyone else who entered) for triggering ideas in my own skull, and showing me what Vegas can do.

I look forward to all future contests!

I thought I recognized an auteur's style too. Maybe it is him under another nom de plume.

Congrats! Great Video!

Orcatek you did an outstanding job also. Way to go!

Nice work MJRoddy and Orcatek. I like the cinematography in First Time. Orcatek, 2nd and 3rd is quite cool.

Did anyone check out the very late entry "Through Vegas Darkly?" That's also one that was well done. It doesn't reference Vegas, but it's a great effect.

Congrats to the winners!! Good game to all.....

That "Through Vegas Darkly" was pretty cool......kinda like a Stargate SG1 effect.

I'm not sure that you can have more han one nom de plume (name_of_pen) , else it would be noms de plume ( names_of_pen)

So it should be ... under a nom de plume or
... under one of his noms des plume
rique wrote on 4/18/2005, 9:49 AM
I have heard of novelists using more than one pen name, so saying it might be him under another pen name sounds ok to me.
saywot wrote on 4/18/2005, 10:04 AM
Yes it does in English,
But it's French .

Try this - Great Britain has a bi-cameral legislature, The House of Lords and the House of Commons( 2 houses of Parliament ).
Mr A is a Member of the Lower House ( Commons) and is, therefore an MP,

Mr B is also a member of Commons and an MP

when they go to lunch together they are two ___ ( insert the plural )
rique wrote on 4/18/2005, 10:29 AM
Yes it does in English,

But the expression non de plume is common in American speech, like soup du jour and deja vu and...btw, do you know Vegas 6 was released today?

MsP ?

Try this linguistic trickster ... we still haven't decided upon the correct answer ...

Say you have a string of objects numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ... etc. You can refer to them ordinally as "first", "second", "third", "fourth", "fifth", etc. Now, suppose we need to add another item in the list, but we desire to not renumber the others. We could end up with 1, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, ... etc. So, what is the ordinal name of that new item? Is it:
    a) Two and a halfth?
    b) Second and a half?
    c) Two point fifth?
    d) Second point five?
    e) Third?
    f) none of the above?
    g) any/all of the above?
    h) not worth worrying about?

We've received and considered very strong arguments in favor or (and against) each of these options. Probably most have argued for option h.

Congrats to the winners ,awesome jobs.I can see I have a long way to go to catch up to the Pro's. But quite inspiring! Thanks to all the other entries as well. I know I had fun making mine and watching all the others.I'm quite amazed I finished in the top 10 , but thats maybe cuz some of the late entries didnt get enough exposure. I think alot of them would have blown right past me.
Thanks to VASST for the oportunity!
Now, if Cathy needs someone to fasten her seatbelt........

Ahem...

I found the winning entry of The Ten Second Video for Vegas to be a little too provocative for my tastes...

But I suppose if sensational looking women, beautifully photographed, directed and masterfully edited together in an absolutley stunning presentation as "Cathy's First Time" was, then I suppose there are people out there who appreciate this sort of thing.

Well yes this is tricky and perhaps I shouldn't have introduced a thread about semantics here whilst congratulating a worthy but here goes ...
The characters 1,2,3,4,5 provide us with a numeric description of something.

If you are asked for directions to another place, for example, and the turns are CALLED left turn 1, left turn 2 and left turn 3 and someone wants to get to X and all they've got to do is take 'left turn 3 which is the 3rd road on the left . Easy

Some local authority constructs a new road on the left so the road leading out of Dodge now has 4 left turns and in order they are 1,2, the road between 2+3, 3

They are CALLED left turn 1, left turn 2, left turn 2.5 and left turn 3 but counting them they are still 1,2,3,4

And the instruction to get to Boot Hill ( which is where I feel that I'm going) would be

" TAKE 'LEFT TURN 3' - IT'S THE FOURTH ON YOUR LEFT "

So applying another string/instruction/whatever to a chain doesn't require a new naming structure but it will affect the quantitative description

The first of the signposts as you are driving out of town will always be the 1st, the second will always be the 2nd the 3rd etc .. you get the message , this is objective and beyond the reach of an individuals influence what the name of the object is

is a construction of a different hue ( they're not being re-numbered but renamed Monsieur Chienworks )
saywot wrote on 4/19/2005, 3:20 AM
Yup !
Boot Hill for me..

Mmm... more like "under one of his noms de plume". Several names, but still wiritten with the *same pen*... ; )
Spot|DSE wrote on 4/19/2005, 8:01 AM
How about "nom's de plumes"....different names/different pens?

It'll be fun presenting MJRoddy with his awards tonight.

Thanks again everyone!
And to those who though that Mr Stonefield did the vid for Cathy, well, I'm extremely flattered.
Truth be told, Cathy's First Time is kind of an homage to Sir Stan. It was he who inspired me to rember that video can be sexy. Believe it or not, I'd forgotten that little detail. His microfilms are clearly my inspiration with the Cathy project.
I actually did a :30 spot that is a DIRECT homage to the Stonefield Method. For any interested, go to
www.matthewroddy.com/videospots
The name of the spot is "fashiondance.wmv."
Someday, I'll have a website that actually shows videos, rather than messy links like this.
I'm always looking for constructive crits. Any suggestions will be duely taken into consideration for future projects.
Thanks again!!!

And you thought I wouldn't answer that one:

:-)
She's not cheep, but she's very, very good and an incredibly hard, dedicated worker. Certainly worth her rates. I definately recommend her to anyone looking for an attractive model-type with a very cute Austrailian accent. As you can see by her many photos, she's a professional.
