Connect HD 3.2 now in public beta

David Newman wrote on 9/8/2006, 5:18 PM
Here is a first look at Connect HD 3.2 (we skipped 3.1 as there are many enhancements -- plus now all our products are at 2.2, 3.2 or 4.2, and we couldn't resist the symmetry.) All existing Connect HD users are welcome to download it from here : http://www.cineform.com/downloads/ConnectHDv320b25beta.zip

This is just some of what has been enhanced :

• HDLink now supports conversion of common media types (now most files that play with Media Player can be converted with HDLink.) You good old DV, WMV or any miscellaneous AVI (some MOV) files can now be batch converted into CineForm Intermediate.
• HDLink now supports resizing of all sources to standard HD sizes. Previously you could up-convert SD, or any non-standard image size.
• Enhanced compression quality even further (across all encoding modes.)
• Connect HD now includes the After Effects CineForm I/O module, for higher quality control over CineForm AE exports.
• HDLink fix for long file batch M2T to AVI conversions
• Many many other small fixes and refinements

Of course never run a beta if you are in the middle of a project, otherwise please give the new features a try and tell us if you have any issues.

Thanks,

Still no support for Prospect HD or Prospect 2K in Vegas I guess?
David Newman wrote on 9/8/2006, 5:56 PM
Vegas unfortunately doesn't have the needed API to support Prospect HD/2K. Although one day I hope that our 10-bit (or deeper) codecs will be suported in Vegas, even if the full Prospect HD can't be Vegas enabled.

Whoo Im curious to see if the digital juice HD mov files will convert now. previously it crashed the juicer if you selected the Cineform avi output.
David Newman wrote on 9/8/2006, 6:40 PM
I'll be interested in that. If they are MOV files you need to get the tools so that they can play in MediaPlayer, once it play in M.P. it should convert in HDLink. We have found the Nero Quicktime(tm) Audio/Video Decoders (included in Nero Burning Rom) works quite well to add MOV support to DirectShow. We found I whole bunch of MOV would convert with Nero installed.

The "thing" is simple.

ive reported in the previous beta topic of connect hd.

if you feed the VFW encoder with RGB24, the resulting files shows in vegas as 24bits

if you feed the VFW encoder with RGB32, the resulting files shows in vegas as 32bits

the problem is, if you put a 32b file in vegas, the smart render will not re-render, BUT, will generate a copy (direct stream) of the area, so, smart render "semi-works".

if you put a 24b file in vegas, the smart render works.

so i gess the right thing to do is even if input is 32b (as vegas do to encoder), the result info shoud be 24b info, like other codecs do, because CFHD not have alpha channel.

any codec able to do smart render in vegas do this way (32b>24b). like matrox dvcpro50.

I believe that was either fixed or there was a user control to address it. Have you tried the beta?
malowz wrote on 9/8/2006, 8:07 PM
months ago ive seen this issue, when i was testing intermediate codecs. (i will buy an canon xl-h1, so... ;) )and it keeps till now... (in 3.2)

ive tested A LOT this and i'm sure about this.

the only option in hdlink is to enable smart rendering for vegas (disable p frames)

hdlink always generate 32b info in files... :(

Your message is not clear -- "and it keeps till now... (in 3.2)"
Does that mean it works or not with the new beta?

Dan

Is this update to 3.2 going to be free for 3.0 user?

All the 3.x versions will be free to 3.0 users. We won't charge for a "point release."

David ,
have have submitted a ticket for an unrelated install issue but jsut wondering once that is straightened out . when installing the new beta shoud we completly uninstall the olld 3.04 including the VFW codec when it asks or is keeping that recc.?
David Newman wrote on 9/9/2006, 5:46 PM
Uninstall everything is best, although not required. Newer components in 3.2 will just install over the older one.

Do you have to be a registered user to try out the beta?
David Newman wrote on 9/10/2006, 8:16 AM
If you never tried Connect HD before the beta will work like a 15-day trial.

im saying this problem still happens in this last version of beta...

There is a new build posted that adds :

1) Threaded VfW Decoder for better dual core performance.
2) More resizing options within HDLink. You can now take any HD material and very quickly produce NTSC 16x9, NTSC lettterbox and NTSC centered output.

Download from here: http://www.cineform.com/downloads/ConnectHDv320b26beta.zip

I welcome your feedback.

Any reports yet on build 26?

David , just be clear should the CFDI's be reencoded from the orig m2t file to take advantage of the improvements. or will older encoded files see a difference when on the t/l.

right now I am unable to play any CFDI's in Vegas 7, crashes on playback on the timeline. Not sure if its a V7 issue they play fine in V6. Would it help to submitt the crash error report to you guys as well as SMS?

Just tried to convert an m2t file that was captured in V7 capture , and upon attempt to convert in HD link get the following:

Error:cfVideoChange.CoCreateinstance[CLSID_CFVideoChange] [0x80040154 - Class not registered] in [C:Brisco\Apps\Capture\Convert.cpp at 1294]

i can provide system specs if you need.
David Newman wrote on 9/14/2006, 10:26 AM
Yes there are quality improvements, but as we where good before I don't think a re-encoding is justified. As for the Vegas 7 issue, some and seeing this some are not, not sure if it is us or Sony, but we will be looking into it. Don't send crash logs, that don't help us, but they might help Sony.

update: i tried conv older m2t file same error mesage.
Also submitted ticket ....

Hi Dan,

I am currently unable to use CFDI's in Vegas 7. My Vegas 7 also crashes on playback from timeline. Playback works fine from trimmer or from auto preview. It appears to be a memory leak of some sort as while the clip is playing, available memory decreases and page file usage increases until Vegas crashes. I installed build 26 today with same results.
