Connect HD minor update

David Newman wrote on 3/31/2007, 10:05 AM
We still have a few users reporting random crashing with 7.0d and the latest Connect HD, most of these issues where installation problems, but the few that remained have kept us looking for a possible cause. We were in the middle of a significant update when we did find something that would impact a subset of CFHD clips, so we made a build with just this small change. For those who have had any stability issues, and think I might have been Connect HD, please try this version: ConnectHD-3.4.2.37-Setup.zip

Please report your findings.

HI,
Just some info for you here on problems with my CFDI files in V7d:

Using the build just prior to what you link above....for capture/converting....

If I double click or drag a CFDI clip from the Vegas explorer window I started to get a solid red video on the Vegas timeline, audio ok...

If I click on that same clip to "preview" (inside Vegas) it plays fine

Other times I can add several (3-4 clips) onto the timeline from the same Vagas explorer and the whole program crashes and closes....

HOWEVER:
If I open a seperate Windows Explorer window
(computer/ RAID drive/ clip folder) I get a thumbnail view where I can see the video and it looks right
I can "preview" in Windows Media Player and it works OK...
I can also click on a clip and drag onto the Vegas timeline and it opens up Ok
Or I can click on the clip and "open with...Vegas" and it shows up OK on the timeline.

So,
It seems something is glitchy when I try to open the same CFDI clip from within V7d explorer....here's where it fails to work properly.

Hope that helps sort thru the weird behavior and random crashing, spontaneous Vegas closing and disappearing, and on occassion just plain freezing up hard. Its always when using the Cineform intermediates...

You don't need to re-capture, the fix will work on existing content. No harm in upgrading today.

Recently I had a problem capturing with CFHD (current version) with clips becoming progessively more pixelated. I tried different firewire cables and two machines (I have CFHD licensed on two) with same outcome. Although this suggested a camera problem (even though video was fine on camera LCD) nevertheless it was a software problem. Capturing through Vegas was fine. In the end I did an uninstall/reinstall of CFHD and have had no problems with running clips in Vegas, but haven't actually again tried capturing with CFHD. Been assuming that the problem is fixed and if it isn't I have a work around!

Serena,

That is not a bug but PC setup issue. If it continues please file a ticket with support. It is unreleased to the fix which is more related to see red frames and the use for the Vegas media explorer.

Dan: This file has the SAME NAME as the version of December 16, 2006? At least according to my saves.

Refresh you cache as I built it yesterday. I also re-checked the download, plus it has already proven to solve one users repeatable issues.

Dan,

Just did a few minutes test capture and that was fine.

I just tried the update, but i'm still getting a crash when opening certain veg files (using 7.0d). I submitted a ticket to CF tech support a little while ago but never really came up with a solution other than going back to Connect HD 3.02 which lets me open my VEG files...

Well I tried the update hoping it would fix my problems with 1280x720 Cineform clips. No luck, Vegas still crashes immediately with this format.

The dreaded red "media offline" came up when I loaded those test clips onto the timeline. Only one clip out of 5 affected. All play fine in WMP. Fixed with the CFHD upgrade discussed.
David Newman wrote on 4/3/2007, 3:01 PM
Serena,

Are you confirming the update fixed you Media offline issue?

bryce87,

A corrupted VEG file my not be something we can fix as it is only within Sony's control. Please try that media in a new project file.

Laurence.

1280x720 works fine, I use them all the time in Vegas. If you have clips that don't work, we need to see them. Please upload some samples and email me.

The problem fixed was the media offline issue. We see no crashes here, anything that is repeatable should be sent to support.

Yes, Dan, the minor upgrade fixed the red "offline media" in this specific instance. I need to check more extensively but will be a few days before I get back to editing.

Just to experiment a little more with this, I started a new file in vegas and dropped some avi's on the timeline - the frames turn red and then vegas crashes. This seems to only happen with files that were captured with earlier versions of Connect HD (although i'm not sure which version). Recently captured files work fine. Again, when i uninstall the new version of Connect HD and go back to 3.02 everything works fine.

Anyone have a clip that crashes or shows up red in Vegas, but works elsewhere, please send us the clip. The is the best way to help us make a better product.

I received a clip that demo'd the problem, and here is the fix that I believe will work for everyone (fingers crossed.)

I look forward to all feedback.

This revision helped a little but I'm still getting crashes with 1280x720 30p, maybe one every 7 or 8 times I try auditioning a 720p clip instead of every second or third time.

I don't have trouble with any clip in particular. It's just random. One time it will crash with one clip, the next time that clip will be fine and another one will crash it. When it crashes, Vegas just disappears. There's no lockup or error messages or mouse freezing or anything. Just one minute Vegas is there, the next it's gone.

Whatever you did this last update, it was a step in the right direction.
David Newman wrote on 4/5/2007, 2:27 PM
Again, please me a clip that does it, even if only sometimes. None of by 720p clips (or other) have any issues.

Yes - build 38 fixed it for me. Thanks!!!
David Newman wrote on 4/5/2007, 10:23 PM
Thanks Bryce, I was meaning to email you as your last email helped me apply more clips to my test system, allowing me to find the bug.

So all I need now is one of these flakey 720p30 clips, Laurence?

David,
Have submitted a request for activation, after install ing the updates when I opened Connect HD it asked to reactivate, and it appears my system code is different. Does this happen because I have installed additional externall HDD lately and is keyed from hardware.
Just wondering as its not a big deal seeing I can use it in demo mode until i recieve the activation.

Latest build has not fixed my problems. I'm getting pixel blocking with straight m2t capture. Capturing m2t with Vegas capture utility works fine.
