Consistent Crash

Every now and again V5 will crash on me when I am shuffling events then hit CTRL+Z. V5 just dissapears then when I restart the project I get this message
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Warning: An error occurred while loading the project file 'FileName.veg'

An error ocurred when loading an audio plug-in or plug-ins. The audio plug-in(s) specified are not installed on this system.

00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000

Anyone seeing anything like this? Firstly, I wish V5 wouldn't crash. That's so annoying. Especially when you are editing with someone else in the room. Secondly, what do all those 0's mean? I am thinking that I have to do something in my registry dealing with Sony/SonicFoundry plug-ins. Anyone else seeing this?

I can usually duplicate this error just by editing. Moving some events, adding transitions, moving the events, then somewhere whilst doing this... CRASH! Gone!

Are these files created in Vegas 4? I've seen this occasionally with files created in 4, then opened but not saved in 5.

YES, I had this problem once with Vegas 4. If I remember correctly, I had saved some presets for some effects or transitions (I forget which) and they had somehow become corrupt. I figured it out when previewing the timeline and something just didn’t look right because the effect was missing. I think I resolved it by removing the effect from the event. Then I re-applied it and resaved the preset but I can’t be sure. (it was a while ago) Anyway it’s not unique to Vegas 5. Did you save or apply any saved presets on this project?

I remember this one from a long time ago. Here is a link to that old thread:

Group>Shuffle Move Group>Crash . . ? Any takers?

This isn't exactly what you are reporting, but it is darn close.

If it really is a consistent crash then perhaps you can figure out the minimum steps needed to reproduce the crash. If you can provide those steps, we can fix this.

That might not be possible. In my case, there really was a Windows registry entry for a class with an id of 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 (two of them actually) that pointed to nothing! These presets were assigned to events in my project. So when I tried to edit the effects on that event, Vegas would disappear. Poof! I don’t know how you would recreate the bogus entry in the registry. I don’t think we understand how it got created.

I've written Tech Support about this. It's been a few days but I figure since I'm using the Trial there are others that should come before me for support. I just placed my order for my Full Version so I guess I'll just 'Hurry up & Wait.' If it reproduces in the Full Version... you know you'll hear from me again.

I'm saying we'll have to wait because on the last time it crashed because of this, when I start V5 it now says "My Trial Period Has Ended". I think that's so funny because it hasn't even been out for 30 days so how can my 30 day trial be over?

Sony knows there are bugs. NAB really stuck it to us on this one. Naturally they couldn't pass up an unveilling at NAB. But I remain loyal. Proof: I'm having problems with it but still dropped cash for it.

It probably has something to do with the whole SonicFoundry to Sony thing. Migration Tools my @$$. Frustration Tools is more like it. But I Love VEGAS none the less.

Stay tuned.
