Constant crash with NewBlue Titler Pro

RunnerBrett wrote on 7/30/2013, 11:24 AM
I cannot use Vegas Pro 12 at all with New Blue Titler Pro 2.0. Vegas Pro crashes even before I have the chance to enter text on the time line.

I've done uninstall/reinstalls but nothing works.

Does anyone have an idea why this is happening?

Thank you in advance for taking the time to reply.

DETAILS:
Vegas Pro 12 64bit Build 670
NewBlue TItler Pro v2.0 Build 130507

Probably system related because the NB titler and my Vegas 12/670 also do not like each other.
Often the titler crashes Vegas milliseconds after I have pressed the add button.

Workaround: open a new empty instance of Vegas.
Insert 1 single video track on the time line - and in this video track I can do my NB titling.

Then I just render the titles with an alpha channel and can insert this into the main project.

Works nicely, no big effort.

Thanks for replying but this workaround will not work for me. If I even click on NB Vegas crashes.

I'm so sick of CRASH CRASH CRASH, it's SO frustrating and counter productive.

Just so the OP has a clue here - in some systems it will work in the following manner. If you have problematic GPU/driver combo - you could try running NewBlue Titler as a standalone app with GPU on.
BUT in order to run VegasPro (forget the NewBlue hook for a moment) -you need to run VegasPro app as non GPU enabled.
Check with NewBlue on a trouble ticket from support to get closer to a final solution.

Have encountered this before - most recently was with a video driver update which did not uninstall/re-install cleanly. NewBlue support was responsive to my inquiry for help troubleshooting as well as quick to fix bugs I encountered in NB Titler 2 once I got my driver issue sorted out properly.

Currently I am running version NB Titler 2.0 Build 130523 with a Radeon HD 7970 & Vegas 12 Build 670 with stable results.

Thanks - I'll check my video drivers.

However, I had just upgraded to the latest version of Vegas so I was quick to blame the upgrade.

Here's a new build of Titler Pro 1 you can test. Please only install the "Sony Vegas Pro OpenFX 64-bit" option. You do not want any of the other options installed.

http://www.newbluefx.com/downloads/Windows/Beta/NewBlueTitlerProForWindowsSetup10-130729.exe

This build should also work properly with Catalyst 13.4.

I have had serious problems with these crashes. Edward Troxel responded promptly, as always, with a new Beta of Titler Pro 2. This didn't solve the problem. I discovered that on the same computer Titler Pro crashes Vegas 10, 11 and 12, all 64-bit. ProType Titler also doesn't work. I did a cross-check on a second computer. Results of my tests are listed below. Have sent these new results to SCS but haven't heard back yet.
Quite a bit of time spent on these issues, which makes meeting project deadlines tricky.
I would love to upgrade my older Q6600 from Vega 12 Build 563 to 670, but I don't dare because at least all the titlers in that system work perfectly. I also don't want the hassle of having to uninstall, then reinstall, then have "too many activations"...

Happy days...
David

Here are the results of my tests, with computer specs at the end.
1. Core i7 3.4GHz computer
Vegas Pro 12 Build 670 64-bit

ProType Titler

Thumbnails in Media generators window are just random colored dots. Double click the event on the timeline and the main window is blank white, ie nowhere to enter text, no controls, just white.

New Blue Titler Pro 2 (originally version 20.exe, then installed
Beta/NewBlueTitlerProForWindowsSetup10-130729.exe

Crashes Vegas Pro instantly in 64-bit versions 10e Build 738, 11 Build 701 and 12 Build 670.
NBTP Version 1 also instantly crashes Vegas.

2. Quad Core Q6600 computer
Vegas Pro 12 Build 563 64-bit
ProType Titler

Works perfectly.

New Blue Titler Pro 2
Works perfectly

Note that I posted another related issue to the Sony Vegas forum, whereby ProType Titler titles in a project built in Vegas 10 are blank when opened in Vegas 12.

Computer specs:

Yes, your e-mail was received by NewBlue support, the details sent to the devs, and responses made back to you.

Problem solved for me.
Edward Troxel from New Blue sent links to new versions of Titler Pro 1 and 2.

This is the link to version 2.

Both TP 1 and 2 now work perfectly in Vegas Pro 12 Build 670.

I have advised SCS and Edward who always responds rapidly and solves any problems. I don't envy him his job, but I'm glad he builds such innovative software!

I have found Titler Pro to be just bad. I have had several projects that are messed up. I went into meticulous detail in naming and saving titles created by this plugin. Last week I opened yet another project that I needed to modify and render again with a shock. The entire title I had spent so much time creating is blank. Words are default, not effects, nothing. When I clicked on the presets to reload the text and effects settings, nothing happened.

My experience over a period of several months was to just give up on the plugin. Because of all the lost work, I ended up long ago deciding to use After Effects when I need fancy titles.

As for customer support, I sent a couple of messages for help when I first had trouble and never ever received a response from New Blue.

As far as I know, every e-mail to support has been answered. Where did you send it to? You should use support at newblueinc dot com.
