Constant Crashing

James-Fraser wrote on 1/19/2021, 1:38 PM

I recently upgraded from Vegas 15 Pro to 18 Pro.

I'm a daily uploader to YouTube making 20-40 minute videos using Vegas Pro 18 to edit.

Why does Vegas Pro crash SO much? It's absolutely ridiculous. I was told that upgrading to Vegas 18 from 15 would help dramatically but honestly it hasn't at all.

This is honestly the single worst piece of software I've ever used. It's so frustrating to just watch my preview window just freeze and have to wait on the inevitable windows pop-up to tell me the program is not responding anymore.

I've followed tutorials on how to fix this but none of them seem to have any impact at all.

It'd be nice to get someone from Vegas Creative Software to actually give a response on this issue.

Version: Latest

Hardware:

5950X - All drivers up to date, including MoBo BIOS.
RTX 3090 - All drivers up to date.

Operation System: Up to date Windows 10

To help you you have to show here 3 things:

1- a screenshot of Help/Check for Driver Updates
2- a screenshot of Options/Preferences/Video
3- a screenshot of Options/Preferences/File I/O

How about some hints as to why it crashes. What media and what are you doing when it freezes.

Do get on the latest NVIDIA Studio Driver.

@James-Fraser - Really sorry to hear of your experiences - not good.

You have the new NVIDIA RTX3090 GPU, yes? Are you using the nVidia Studio Drivers? Also, I’ve noticed that although you’ve been using VP15 and now made the leap to VP18 and this is your very first post on these Forums, are you sure you’ve optimised your existing PC to run VP18?

My concerns are: 1] Latest NVIDIA GPU and 2] your stretch to VP18. I think you’re needing support for this pathway/route you’ve chosen. I’m hoping we can assist.

@James-Fraser - What are your CPU details?

Another thing to try is to reset Vegas, especially if the GPU upgrade was done recently and Vegas still has settings for the old GPU saved. You can hold control-shift on startup to clear the cache and also undo any changes you made based on YouTube videos, which will help reduce variables.

@RogerS - Now that’s a great point!

@James-Fraser If you asked for help by a crash we need your machine settings and the steps before the crash to reproduce (something like... add a image to the timeline, add border plugin, crash every time). Is it an issue because of the stability of your system we need a crash report with information in the description and your name.

This would be awesome in the description and helps a lot to improve the stability... and to read your error report.

Description: ... my last steps before the crash. I added a clip (format xyz, resolution 8k, 120fps) to the timeline and added the denoising plugin to the clip. Vegas is now not responding and crashed. I also asked in the forum at this url http:\\XYZ

~VEGASPascal

Every developers loves the information about the last steps before the crash. It is easier to understand why it happens and the crash in the code shows (driver not responding, out of internal GPU 64kb constant memory, GPU encoding issues, out of dynamic memory ect.).

Hi- New to Version 18 as well and happened to come across this video on you tube by Scrapyard Films. He's pretty knowledgeable about Vegas and Post and I did what he suggests and so far only had one crash and THAT was because of some very intense thing I tried doing or best said, accidentally did.

ANYWAY...here's the link to his video:

The downside is some of those suggestions disable features in VEGAS, such as enabling legacy decoding.
