Constant errors and shotdowns

tigermike74 wrote on 12/4/2008, 10:35 PM
Hello everyone, I'm new with the Vegas software. I have the Platinum Edition Movie Studio 9. When I go to open a project, I get an error and the program will shut down. Sometimes it will load and I can start to do some editing of existing files, like if I want to trim and rotate a .mov file. I'll do a little work and will randomly get this same unexpected error and the program will shutdown. Does anyone know why this is happening or how I can fix it? I'm running a Pentium D 2.8Ghz Dual Core, 4GB PC2-6400, ATI All-In-Wonder X600 Pro PCI-e 256MB. Thanks in advance for any help. :o)

Michael

Hi,

I cannot directly say what's wrong on your system but according to the error message the problem is related to Quicktime so please make sure that you've installed the latest Quicktime update.

Cheers

You need to tell us what kind of file you are trying to open, and make sure you have updated your Platinum edition to version 9.0b.

Thanks for the replies. The file I am opening is just a plain .mov file that was taken with my Aiptek A-HD camera. I loaded the newest Quicktime, but I'll reload it, maybe something got corrupted. I do have Vegas updated to 9.0b as well. Hopefully the newest QT reinstall will fix this problem. Thanks again!

If it's not fixed, do a bug report at Sony's online support. Files from some Aiptek models crashing vegas is common.

I've just loaded VMS9.0b on Vista 64 bit, which is working well. First test project was 1280 x 720p @60fps from the Aiptek A-HD camera. Yes, that's the one that the VMS9.0b Release Note specifically identifies as not supported,

Initial results were that the video loaded normally, but the audio track was not being loaded at all. After a bit of checking, it became clear that VMS was mis-reading the header, which caused the problem. Aiptek saves H.264 encoded video with AAC encoded audio. VMS was reading the file as having MPEG4 audio!

The simple solution is to change the video file extension from .MOV to .mp4 and then open VMS and drag the video into your project. In my case that works perfectly. YMMV, of course, but it appears to be a very simple solution for Aiptek users.
