Constantly Crashing

jdhhauser wrote on 7/22/2011, 10:54 PM
Vegas constantly freezes during video editing. I am editing HD video in both .MTS and .MOV files.

Sometimes the program goes to "Not Responding" mode, sometimes a "Sony Vegas has stopped working" error comes up, sometimes the preview window turns completely red.... It's a disaster. I can't edit for more than 3 minutes (sometimes less) without it crashing.

I have a Quad-Core 8GB RAM computer with 256MB video card so the strength of the computer should not be an issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Install VMS11 Platinum in parallel, make a copy of the project file, and continue editing there. If it doesn't crash with the new version anymore, upgrade. If you're already using the latest version, then re-encode the mts/mov files in Cineform ($130), which is much more stable to edit. Another things to try: copy/paste the whole timeline in a new vegas window (to fix any project file corruption that might have occurred), or apply the 64bit patch for Vegas that let's it use an additional 1 GB of RAM. Even if your PC has 8 GB of RAM, Vegas 32bit can only use 2 GB as is.

I have similar problems all the time. I am using VMSP11 build 231.

Where can I get 64 bit patch for Vegas?

VMS is a 32 bit application so there is no 64 bit fix.
That said you may expand its RAM use capabilities as described in this thread:

Another thing: I do not have VMS (only have Vegas Pro) but: could you pls. check if your VMS has got a point called "Enable Track Buffering" under Options + Preferences + Audio Device ? if yes, pls. uncheck it and see if this helps? pls let me know.

Did you also do the Unclick Enable Track Buffering thing?
