Continual crashing with 5.1

Vegas keeps crashing out when rendering anything with surround sound. It will either just stop and close the window, or sometimes windows says it has crashed, while others the preview window just goes black or stops advancing the frames and it just sits for hours unitl I use task manager to kill it.

The source type is AVCHD from a sony HDR-SR11, and the final format is either AVCHD again or .wmv. It can render the same videos just fine in stereo only project modes and it has rendered other things from this camcorder just fine before with surround sound..kinda wondering if the MS patch my PC installed today might be the culprit.

Anyway, I'm also running Vista 64-bit edition, so that might toss a wrench into things.

Is anyone else having a problem rendering surround sound projects?

File a bug report with Sony support. This problem has been mentioned here many times, there is nothing we can do. It's a bug of the app, so it's only the engineers who can fix it.

Well, when you try to do anything with sony support and mention that you have 64-bit anything it kicks you and tells you you are a bad human for using such a thing.

Funny, since vegas is clearly styled and aimed for more serious users who want extensive control and options, they don't support 64-bit, which means any serious user who has over ~4gb of ram is in a hole.

Sony needs to get their rears in gear on 64-bit support for Vegas as I can go and pick up a consumer grade PC at Best Buy, etc, that comes with 6gb ram and Vista 64 bit.

Also it would appear that both Adobe and Pinnacle support Vista 64bit...

I wonder if Sony is just abandoning this product, they lost over a billion bux and will probably soon start to cut out things that are outside of what they really focus on and it has been a while since any updates came out...

I am afraid you just need to wait it out until the bug is fixed. Until then, use stereo.

Is there an easy way to flip between stereo and 5.1 mode, or will I be unable to use a project done in stereo and change it to 5.1 after the bug is fixed?

Actually, it's still very unstable in stereo mode..

I really like the software, hoping some bug fixes come out soon.
