continuously play separate chapters

ultimix wrote on 10/11/2004, 9:17 AM
I am using Ver 2 and I have separate video files as each chapter. At the end of each file it goes back to the menu. I would like to play the chapters throught the whole menu with out stoping. I dont want to go throught the hassle of making them one complete file, I am taking them from different DVDs.

I have already worked on the file a while with graphics etc, and really dont want to start over with the music complilation function.

How do you make it play continuously without each chapter stoping. I did a search and I know this topic has been covered but I havent been able to find the right answers.

thanks with any help.

Mark

In the left-hand pane, double click on each file (not the menus, but the files; the files are in green). In the right-hand pane you will see the "end action" item. Open that, and then select which chapter you wish to play next. Do this for each chapter.

Sony: It would be nice to have this be the a selectable default.

It works - but now when I try to go to another chapter - hit next chapter, when a track is playing - it will not go to the next chapter. It only goes to the next chapter after the previous has played -

help please -

thanks

Well, you said you didn't want to use a compilation. ;-)

A compilation takes all the videos and puts them into a single titleset, with each one being a chapter. The method described by John makes each video its own titleset. The "next" button on most DVD systems moves between chapters, not between titlesets. (Actually, that part can vary from player to player, I think.)

So you have to decide -- do you want to eat your cake, or do you want to have it? 'Cause I'm not sure you can do both.

You can:

a) Put several video files into a compilation so that they're chapters.
b) Put several video files into a project and link them so that they're titlesets.
c) Combine them outside of DVDA into one video file and set chapters in it.

I've used several DVD authoring apps, and I've yet to find one that will put several files into a single titleset with chapters. (Not saying they're aren't any such apps, but I haven't come across one yet.)

You'd probably want to go with option C, in which case you should try one of the Womble products or a similar program that lets you join MPEG2 files without re-rendering everything. Note that Vegas will not do this.

The files I have are MV2 and AC3 files. I love the fact that I didnt have to mux them, saved on a lot of time. Does any of the MPEG joiner files accept AC3? Most of the programs (tmpgenc) I was using to mux the files didnt like the AC3 files. I coverted them to WAV files, but still got errors.

thanks and looking forward to your advice -

hi,

i have the same exact question, but your answer is not clear on my program, where are you looking when you say in the "left hand pane, double click on each file", can you clarify this somehow? i do not see this option and have searched constantly, this is VERY frustrating and sony does NOT answer this support question (at least not yet)

thanks jim

He's referring to the Project Overview window (check the labels on the tabs).

If you're using DVDA 1, though, none of this applies. Many strides were made between version 1.0 and 2.0.

In the left pane you will see each of the video files that you have added. These are shown as small clips of movie film. Double-click on that and you will see the end actions section in the pane on the right side of the screen.

bStro correctly points out that this only applies if you are using DVD Architect version 2.

Can End Actions be set in DVD ARCHITECT STUDIO ?

If not, is there a way to have a menu'ed DVD play each movie without going back to the menu?

No.

1. Combine all the videos into a single file, bring this larger file into DVDA Studio.

OR:

2. Put your videos into a music compilation. This will allow you to have multiple files in a single titleset. Note that using this method, each individual movie will not be able to have chapter points -- each video will be considered a chapter.

Thanks for the quick reply bStro,

Can one of the DVD editing tools (maybe PgcEdit) be used to make the DVD play the movies in sequence, rather than jump back to the menu?

Possibly. I've heard of people doing some good tinkering with those programs (pgcEdit, IFOEdit, etc). I've used MenuEdit, but that's about as geeky as I've gotten as far as editing DVD structures. Do a search on this forum for some of those programs.
