It's REALLY a time saver, big time!
But then again, I work in the marketing department. :) Just kidding.

Do a search for contour shuttle pro in the Vegas Video family forums to get people's impressions.

Welllll .. . I like gadgets! Having owned up to that, the CSP is gives me the ability to twist the Big wheel and speed up and down the timeline. There're several buttons that I'm getting to grips with that I'm finding DO give control in selecting "lumps" of video etc etc. Now the thing is, does this add value over and above my Logitech wireless rodent? I'm starting to the hang of it. The REAL problem - which may fade as I become more CSP competent - will be the need for a "third-hand" to jump up to the keyboard. Will I be able to disspense with the QWERTY? - Dunno yet. But, in the meantime I just love slipping up and down the timeline with the CSP throttled-up to 20x - neat! " . . .is this just "marketing"? " Can't answer this yet. I'm going to keep going with it and see what I feel about it.

You could look on the COW, there is a CSP Forum devoted to all things "Shuttle". You might see an advantage in also using it with WORD - It works well with that too!

I just got one a couple of weeks ago and instantly loved it. The USB cable is a bit short though but that helped me start using it with my left hand instead of where I was thinking of using it with my right hand (I'm right handed). So I zip around my video with the CSP with my left hand and switch between mouse and keyboard with my right hand. Feels natural to me even though I would have thought using it with my right hand would have been better. Eventually I'll reprogram some of the buttons to take care of what I do on the keyboard.

If the ShuttlePRO is too much green for you, the SpaceShuttle A/V is half the cost, but only 5 buttons instead of 13. They both have a real nice jog dial and shuttle ring. It also depends on how much space you have on your desk.
