i want this controller to control the vegas interface. i want it to allow me to hit record on the controller.. i want to be able to use the controller soley.. and use vegas softare for post/mixdown

The Mackie Controller reportedly works well with Vegas. I also found the M-Audio ProjectMix I/O the other day. It is designed to work with PT M-Power as well as Mackie Control, Logic Control or HUI protocol. It comes with 8 mic pres, has ADAT Lightpipe, S/PDIF, MIDI, and Firewire I/O. Runs right at a grand. They don't list Vegas specifically on their compatability chart, but Mackie does and they run the HUI protocol so the M-Audio unit ought to work with Vegas from what I understand. The Mackie has overlays for Vegas though and the M-Audio doesn't that I could find.

There's also a Tascam that looks quite sexy as well, but if you can wait there are going be lots of solutions soon IMHO.

Here's the Tascam

Have you seen the Mackie Digital Xbus? Very nice, although it's a shame you have to end up with two project files if you want to use the on-board plug-ins and automation

BTW there's plenty of love in the Audio forum. We're just a bit slower to get to know and love...

I have the digi002R and a Mackie Control and they work well with Vegas.

In fact ProTools LE on a PC is so limiting, no video out firewire, as it can do on a Mac, and sluggish when you include video in a window, that I don't use it and rely on Vegas for my Audio post work in my home studio.
I do use ProTools HD systems in my day job as a professional audio post specialist for broadcast TV.

My experience with the 002R and Vegas is that it works well and the ASIO drivers supplied with the hardware give full access to the I/O even allowing swapping of the S/PDiff I/O between coax and optical and ADAT TOSLINK.

I am impressed with the functionality of the Mackie Control as the mapping does a lot more than just include the normal audio functions. Switching over to video allows you to control switching to external monitors and the Faders take on the roll of transparency level controls for the video tracks... not something I honestly use but... It's even quite responsive via the midi interface, something which originally i thought might be a problem.

Can't comment on the other hardware mentioned but I fairly happy with my configuration... now if Digidesign would only get off their bums and fix PT LE for Windows .... ah but that's for another forum...
