Controlling Titles & Text

So I have Vegas Home Studio Platinum 11, and am attempting to use some of the Titles & Text effects, but there really doesn;t seem to be anything for controlling every aspect of them.

For example, the Rolling Glow and Enlarge... I can change the text color, but I cannot find anyway to change the glow color, there just ins't an option for it in the Media Generator edit/entry screen. It's yellow. Always yellow. I cannot find anyway to change the glow size, the size the letters enlarge to during it's animation. I have expanded every possible panel, and it's just not there.

In Rough Day, it's extremely misleading, the position box in the preview window doesn't accurately reflect the ending position of the text. It seems to bounce off the far right had edge, but it ends up where-ever it appears to want to. The only way I've been able to get thing positioned correctly is by guessing.

I wonder how the others work, whether it's strictly by guessing, or are there actual controllable parameters...

Hello Wiz:

I have Pro 10 so I cannot speak directly to VMS 11, but I suspect you can indeed control the glow color and various other text effects. I used VMS 9 for over a year and I was able to customize my text to a high degree. I've heard that VMS 11 has a new titling tool similar to the Protype titler in Pro 10, so it should be very cool and customizable : )

I don't mean to state the obvious, but try the help and see what it says, and there may also be a tutorial on the Support/Training page. Also VASST has training materials for VMS. Not free, but excellent content.

Wiz, you're correct, you can't change the color of the glow. That's the problem with canned effects, at least in their initial version included in 11. Maybe SCS will add that ability in 12.

For Rough Day, it does look random. Have you tried animating it, it may give you better control.

All in all, I found the effects rather cheesy so I won't bother using them.

Not. Like everything else in VMS, it's a stripped down version of what is in Vegas Pro.

I cannot remember if VMS has the Sony Glow. If yes, you should be able to control the color of that glow. Not sure if that look will work for you but might be worth a try.

Thus far, I have been really disappointed with the new and improved titling effects. I am actually considering skipping all the titling stuff in VHS and using an external application for it... Swish Max, while it's a Flash generator, has some interesting and easy to use text affects. Export it out as an AVI, and I can just re-use the clip as needed for the major credits, then create a short title clip for any new videos I do...

Too bad, but as expected, my expectations exceed the capabilities of the software.
