Controlling transitions

I'm using a top down linear wipe to transition between two images, identical except there's a line on the second one. This allows me to produce a very simple animated line. It works well and I'm happy except that I'd like the transition to start from a point halfway(ish) down the frame, rather than the top. Is there any way of doing this?

I've realised I can get the effect I want by overlaying the preceding clip up to the point where I want the transition to start. I'd still be interested to know if there's that much control over transitions, though.

On the timeline, there should be a little half black, half white box in the transition. Clicking on this brings up the transition properties. You can also right click and select transition properties.

Usually you can adjust things like the direction of the transition, border colors, etc from the transition properties dialog. Timing, however, must be adjusted by how much you overlap the clips.
