conversion software

Can anyone recomend a program that easily converts files. I'd like to be able to pull audio and video ts files from a dvd and send them to a file such as mpeg, quicktime, avi, and so on. I don't want the software to be limited to just pulling info from DVD's however, rather, i'd like to be able to pull in an AVI and export it as MPEG with the option to controll parameters such as quality level.......
thank you.

I was going to say Vegas. Do you mean "vob" instead of "ts" from a DVD, or are you just using transport stream in the generic?

You might want to look at TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress. I use version 3 a lot and it works well to convert unencrypted vob files to mpg, wmv, avi etc. It also features filters for cropping, color correction etc. too.

I used this before... Cinematize 2 but it may not address your second need - sorry, I'm not at work yet so I can't check. Definitely allows you to pull from DVDs though.
