Here is a reply from Samsung telling how to convert their Samsung camcorder files (helmet camera type that uses chips instead of tape). I haven't had time to try it yet but it sounds like it will work. They use Pixella Image Mixer software.
From Samsung:
Some video editing programs cannot properly edit the files created by our Miniket camcorders if the AVI file is taken directly from the camcorder. However, the included Image Mixer software can be used to convert the encoding of these files to another format, which will then allow most programs to edit them successfully.
To begin the conversion process, start Image Mixer and choose the left-most icon to bring up the Capture screen. The contents of the camcorder will be automatically displayed, if not click on the memory stick icon in the left margin. Choose the file that you want to convert, then drag it from the main window to one of the binder icons in the right-hand margin (clips can be placed in any of those binders).
With the desired file now in a binder, click the third icon along the top (which looks like a movie directors clapboard) to enter Edit mode. On this screen, use the pull-down menu along the top of the screen (near the upper-right of the preview window) to choose the binder that the clip was dragged into. Then, drag the clip from the main window into the empty box above the timeline. Once this is done, click on the icon in the upper right which looks like several boxes with an arrow pointing to a film reel; this button begins the saving process.
On the save screen that comes up, the pull-down menu at the top allows the user to choose from either DV or DivX format. To find out which format is compatible with the editing software that the end user wants to use, save one file in DivX format (for example, Test1.avi) and another copy of the same clip in DV format (Test2.avi). With both of these sample files created, have the end user run their video editing software, and try opening both files. Whichever format opens successfully is the one the customer should use for all future conversions. Each file from the camcorder that the customer wants to edit will need to go through the conversion process in Image Mixer described above.
